As a nanny, when the kid I was watching seemed like he was going to drag potty training out f-o-r-e-v-e-r, I started setting a timer. Every 15 minutes, the timer would go off and it was, "Potty time!!" He would drop what he was doing and run sit on the potty. I tried to sound super excited every time so it would be more like a fun game instead of a chore. To make things easier, I only dressed him in a shirt and undies or pants with an elastic waistband. We did this for a couple of days, and then I gradually lengthened the time. Setting the timer and shouting, "Potty Time!!" also freed me up do whatever I needed around the house or with his baby sister without stressing that he was going to pee his pants on their expensive oriental rugs because I was feeding his sister or fixing dinner. I left before he was fully potty trained, and I don't know if his mother followed through with the same thing on the days I wasn't there, but it seemed to be working. My mom also started something with my niece when she kept peeing her pants because she didn't want to stop playing: potty parties. I forget how it started, but once it did, it was all the rage with my three little nieces. One of them would have to go, and someone would shout, "POTTY PARTY!!" and everyone would run to the bathroom en masse. Once it was the cool thing to do, it was a lot easier to get my niece to stop playing before she peed her pants.Michelehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03872182249568418212noreply@blogger.com
